Digital Commons provides an opportunity for Greater Allegheny faculty and students to learn about creating digital media such as video and audio to positively impact their coursework.

Registered users may use the on-line reservations system at http://reservations.ga.psu.edu/ to book resources in either the editing room or the video (camera) studio.

A selection of hand held cameras are also available for check-out in the library Contact the library directly for additional information.

Greater Allegheny Digital Commons Rooms are Open for Business

The Digital Commons studio at Greater Allegheny is open and taking appointments. Scheduling is controlled through an on-line reservation system which is located at http://reservations.ga.psu.edu. Before using this system, users need to register with their PENN STATE email address, which is done by following the "First time user? Click here to register" link.

PLEASE NOTE: The Digital Commons Studios are LOCKED when not reserved. The Computer Center Help Desk staff will open the room only for individuals who have booked the equipment via the reservations system. The individual(s) reserving the equipment are personally responsible for the equipment entrusted to them and are strongly advised not to leave it unattended. Report any problem immediately to the help desk staff, and advise the staff when you leave the room so that an inspection and sign-off can be effected.

Penn State Greater Allegheny's "Chancellor's Prize for Moving Media"

Dear Directors & Friends of ABSENCE:

The Editorial Board of Absence: Penn State Greater Allegheny's Literary & Art Magazine has asked me to announce a new addition to the annual Celebration of the Arts Event: The Chancellor’s Prize for Moving Media, which is a cash award given to the best piece submitted.

Submissions to the Moving Media category will be juried by the Editorial Board for a screening that will be held as a part of the Celebration events on April 23rd at 7pm in the Ostermayer Room of the SCC. Submissions will be accepted until Monday, April 7th and should be turned in using the guidelines listed below. Questions regarding submission guidelines should be addressed to Professor Hepner at lah40@psu.edu.

Moving Media Category Specifications:
-Under 4 minutes in duration
-Created the 2007-2008 Academic Year
-720x480 (“Full Quality DV” setting) Quicktime Movie File*
-Does not contain author’s name in the visuals
-Files are burned to a Data CD or DVD (not iDVD)
-CD or DVD has student’s name and PSU email address written on it in permanent marker and placed in a sleeve or case

Studio Moved to Crawford Building

In order to make the facilities more accessible, the Digital Commons studio at Greater Allegheny has been moved to room 1A in the Crawford Building. The on-line reservation system (http://inet.ga.psu.edu/reservations) will continue to be used to reserve equipment.
