The Digital Commons presented at the 2008 New Media Consortium conference, going into detail on how the organization came to be and how it works together. The focus of the presentation was to demonstrate to other institutions how they could create a Digital Commons-like group at their own campus on a shoe-string budget. Presenters included Chris Millet, Matt Frank, Ryan Wetzel, Tim Perry, and Justin Miller.
This video blog was created during the Digital Commons core crew's attendance at the New Media Consortium conference in 2008. Justin Miller, Ryan Wetzel, Chris Millet, April Sheninger, Tim Perry, and Matt Frank discuss a wide variety of topics inspired by their experiences during the NMC conference.
Note about the audio: We recorded the video blog near a waterfall in the hotel lobby. Matt and I attempted to remove the constant waterfall sound and were successful, but were left with the ambient background noise distortion that you can hear with the volume turned up.
On Thursday, June 12th, myself and the Digital Commons team presented at the New Media Consortium (NMC) 2008 Summer Conference. The subject was "Building and Support a Large-Institution Digital Media Service", and my goal was to convince the other institution in attendance that building something like Digital Commons is feasible for anyone, and that it can be a very valuable addition at any university. I'm attaching my slides here, although the conversation we had during the presentation was excellent and not captured here. We'll be posting a video soon!
