Now that we are into August, scheduling becomes a hot topic for those involved in the Digital Commons project at our campus. Three scheduling questions: 1) Has the Digital Commons training for the campus support staff been set (was tentatively set for the afternoon of either August 16th or 17th)? 2) Have equipment shipping dates been set (we need to alert our mail room ahead of time)? 3) Have installation dates been set?
One communication/marketing question: Is ITS preparing a common message to be shared among the five campuses, such as Digital Commons promotional materials for faculty, staff, and students?
Thanks!
Tutorial for exporting for NTSC Video from Final Cut Express
I wanted to see if there is, or will be, a tutorial available for exporting to full res NTSC video (quicktime) from Final Cut Express? This is something that my students will be doing for their final project (in December) and I am hoping that there will be a reference for them about this on the Digital Commons site. I'll be going over how to do this in class, but it would also be great to have something here, as well. They'll also be exporting for iDVD and for the web, but I believe both of those are already covered.

Are you wanting a tutorial
Are you wanting a tutorial on going back out to a NTSC tape from Final Cut or to an NTSC Quicktime? If you are wanting to go to a quicktime, our current tutorial for going to iDVD from Final Cut Pro has steps to make your quicktime movie self contained. This will create a quicktime file which matches the sequence presets from your Final Cut Pro Project. So if you are working in with NTSC footage in Final Cut your output will be an NTSC Quicktime. I am not sure if these steps will be different for Final Cut Express (but I think they are the same.) This is a good suggestion to make this step its own tutorial rather than having it be part of the iDVD tutorial.
Training and installations
Carol - installations will happen August 13th-15th, and the 20th-22nd. Training dates are the 16th and 17th. You can come to either - no need to come to both as they will be the same content.
We're working on several different promotional pieces and signage to help everyone promote Digital Commons at their campuses. We're planning to have all that ready by the time we start to do installations.
