Digital Commons – Common Compression Settings
For another editing program or iDVD:
• From iMovie
1. Choose Share > Export Movie
2. Choose Large size to export
3. Pick where you would like to save your project
4. Type a name in the Export As box
5. Click Export
• From Final Cut
1. Choose File > Export > QuickTime Movie…
2. Make sure the options are as follows:
• Setting: Current Settings
• Include: Audio and Video
• Markers: None1
3. Check the box marked Make Movie Self-Contained
4. Pick where you would like to save your project
5. Type a name in the Save As box
6. Click Save
For ANGEL or the web:
• From iMovie
1. Choose Share > Export using QuickTime
2. Set Export: to Movie to QuickTime Movie
• From Final Cut
1. Choose File > Export > Using QuickTime Conversion…
2. Set Format: to Movie to QuickTime Movie
• (continued) for both applications
1. Click the Options… button
2. Input these settings into the following categories:
• Video > Settings…
• Compression Type: MPEG-4 Video
• Frame Fate: 15 fps
• Key Frames: Every 75 frames
• Best Quality
• Data Rate: Restrict to 500 kbits/sec
• Video > Size…
• Dimensions: 320 x 240 QVGA
• Sound > Settings…
• Format: AAC
• Channels: Mono
• Rate: 44.100 kHz
• Prepare for Internet Streaming
• Hinted Streaming
3. Click OK
4. Pick where you would like to save your project
5. Type a name in the Save As box
6. Click Save
For PowerPoint on the PC2:
• From iMovie
1. Choose Share > Export using QuickTime
2. Set Export: to Movie to Quicktime Movie
3. Pick where you would like to save your project
4. Type a name in the Save As box
5. Click Export
6. Open up the Visual Hub application
7. Drag the Quicktime file into Visual Hub and convert to .WMV
• From Final Cut
1. Choose File > Export > QuickTime Movie…
2. Pick where you would like to save your project
3. Type a name in the Save As box
4. Click Save
5. Open up the Visual Hub application
6. Drag the Quicktime file into Visual Hub and convert to .WMV
For PowerPoint on the Mac2:
• From iMovie
1. Choose Share > Export Movie
2. Change Size to Export - Medium
3. Click the Export button
• From Final Cut
1. Choose File > Export > Using QuickTime Conversion…
2. Set Format: to Movie to QuickTime Movie
• (continued) for both applications
1. Click the Options… button
2. Input these settings into the following categories:
• Video > Settings…
Compression Type: MPEG-4 Video
Frame Fate: 24 fps
Key Frames: Every 240 frames
Best Quality
Data Rate: Restrict to 800 kbits/sec
• Video > Size…
Dimensions: 720 x 480 4:3
• Sound > Settings…
Format: AAC
Channels: Stereo
Rate: 44.100 kHz
• Uncheck Prepare for Internet Streaming
3. Click OK
4. Pick where you would like to save your project
5. Type a name in the Save As box
6. Click Save
For an iPod or vodcast:
• From iMovie
• Choose Share > Export Using Quicktime
• Click the medium size button
• Pick where you would like to save your project
• Type a name in the Export As box
• Click Export
• From Final Cut
• Choose File > Export > Using QuickTime Conversion…
• Set Format: to iPod (320x240)
• Pick where you would like to save your project
• Type a name in the Save As box
• Click Save
