Connect the Sony DVD Player video and audio cables to the JVC VCR:

1. On the back of the Sony DVD player, near the left side, locate the 3 ports which are colored red, white, and yellow.
2. On the back of the JVC VCR, near the left side, locate the 3 ports that are also colored yellow, red and white. These are the video and audio input ports that the JVC VCR references as the L-1 input.
3. Connect one end of the yellow cable to the yellow port on the back of the DVD player, and the other end of the cable to the JVC VCR's yellow port. Connect the red and white cables in the same manner, matching the cable connector color to the port color on each device.
4. Make sure that the JVC VCR and Sony DVD Player power plugs are plugged into power outlets.
5. The cables should be connected exactly as pictured below, with the DVD Player on top of the JVC VCR in this picture:

How to import the DVD video into iMovie HD:

* Quit of out iMovie HD, if it's already running.
* Power on the Sony DVD player by pressing the I/O button on the left front corner:

* Power on the JVC VCR.
* Press in the hub cap / rotary wheel and rotate it until "L-1" appears in the display on the front of the JVC VCR:

* Make sure that firewire cable goes from the front of the JVC VCR to the Macintosh computer, and that the DVD player is plugged into the rear of the JVC VCR. Our main Video Editing Cable Connections documentation details the firewire cables setup.
* Power on the Sony TV Monitor, press the "TV/Video" button until you see "VIDEO" appear in the upper left corner and the blue Sony DVD menu:

* Press the EJECT button on the Sony DVD player, and place the DVD in the tray. Press the EJECT button again to close the drive tray. The eject button is being pointed to in the picture below:

* Once the DVD has been placed on the tray and closed, the Sony Menu will display "Loading."
* NOW Launch iMovie HD and create a standard "DV" formatted movie project.
* Change iMovie's mode to CAPTURE, select "SR-VS30" from the pop-up menu.
* You should see the Sony DVD display on iMovie's video import window.
* Press the "PLAY" button on the front right of the DVD player, and the recorded movie on the DVD disc will start to play:

* In iMovie HD, click the "Import" button.
