"I've been using the M-Audio Classroom Studio Bundle for podcasting. The problem is that the condensor mic's in that kit require a preamp and "phantom power", and the included preamp is a bit bulky, especially if I'm traveling or just want to podcast from a different location. Is there a more portable solution for plugging this kind of equipment directly into my computer?"

There are many different ways to hook up a microphone to a PC or a Mac but for a simple one piece solution look no further than the Micport Pro. While it is a little pricey, it offers an easy and portable solution for podcasting and recording which is perfect laptops.

There is also the MXL Mic
There is also the MXL Mic Mate for a little less. Although it does not have the headphone output (you'd listen through the computers headphone output). If you have a second, listen to the comparison on the MXL site http://www.mxl-usb.com/ It's amazing!
