In order to back up your Project File in Audacity you must first save it.
1) Click File > Save Project As in the file menu system

2) You will now be prompted to choose a save location and file name for your project

3) Now locate the project files that you just save (they will be in the directory you indicated in step 2)

4) Back up both the AUP file and _data directory in order to backup your project. Both of these will need backed up or your project will be lost.
Audacity is a free, easy-to-use audio editor and recorder for Windows, Mac OS X, GNU/Linux, and other operating systems. You can use Audacity to:
* Record live audio.
* Convert tapes and records into digital recordings or CDs.
* Edit Ogg Vorbis, MP3, and WAV sound files.
* Cut, copy, splice, and mix sounds together.
* Change the speed or pitch of a recording.

LAME is a plug-in centered around the creation of MP3 content. It's useful for when you are done editing your sound files and you want to export them from Audacity to an .mp3 file. You can find out more about it and download it here.

Installation instructions for the LAME encoder for Audacity on Windows:
This workshop centers around having the participants edit a pre-recorded Podcast. Initially the presenter will verbally go through the steps to setup and record a Podcast, afterwards a work shop pamphlet will be handed out to each participant stepping them through editing and creating a Podcast in Audacity. The presenter will at this time be available to answer any questions and solve any problems the participants have.
